The club's Annual Charity Gala Dinner was held at the G.I.C.C. The guest of honour was His Excellency the President of the Republic of Botswana, Mr Festus G. Mogae. The guest speaker was the Governor of the Bank of Botswana, Mrs Linah K. Mohohlo.

2 by 5 litre bottles of Zandvliet Shiraz wine, which had been signed by His Excellency the President, where auctioned. The first bottle was secured by Mr Jagdish Shah for the sum of BWP 5 000.00 and the second was secured by a visitor to Botswana from Canada, Mr Allen Clarke, for the sum of BWP 10 500.00.

Thanks to the generosity of Mr Clarke and Mr Shah, the diners and the various sponsors, a substantial amount was raised for the various Rotary projects.

7 to 13 August

15 members of Youth Challenge, Singapore spent a week in Gaborone and the surrounding area providing food and clothing to orphans and disabled children. The group of youngsters were assisted by the Rotary Club of Gaborone's President Mike Lakin. President Mike ably assisted by Rtn Jim Parton organized the vists and the transport to various day care centres and rehabilitation centres.

Youth Challenge is an organization of teenagers that obtains sponsorship from companies in Singapore and has the backing and support of UNDP and they visit various countries supplying humanitarian support.

While this was not a Rotary project, we as the Rotary Club of Gaborone made it a club project to assist Youth Challenge with their logistics and supported them where we could
