President Mike Lakin was inducted as the 35th President of the Club at a dinner at the Gaborone Sun.
During the evening Paul Harris awards were presented to Ellah Mohamadi of Bana ba Keletso, Rtn Yash Gureja and Rtn Graham Burt.

Major Andrew Overfield outgoing Chief of the US Office of Defense Cooperation, Botswana and responsible for the Humanitarian Assistance Program was made a Paul Harris Fellow by the club. Andrew has been a great friend of Rotary and was largely responsible for obtaining the funds for the building of the Kamogelo Day Care Centre and phase II of Bana ba Keletso. The honour was bestowed on Andrew by President Mike Lakin at our weekly luncheon.

The club started off the new Rotary year with a donation of 19 wheelchairs to individuals from Ramotswa. Ramotswa is a village that is situated approximately 40km south east of Gaborone. 9 Rotarians lead by President Mike Lakin were present to assist with the assembling of the wheelchairs and to help transfer the individuals into their new "wheels". The truck to transport the wheelchairs was provided by Consolidations Botswana (Pty) Ltd.

President Mike also donated some text books to the South East District Council that had been part of the consignment of books received from the Rotary Club of Kyalami in October 2005.

Hope collected their blankets from Consolidations Botswana who had donated the blankets to the Rotary Club of Gaborone. These blankets are to handed out as part of the Anchor project which is a joint venture between Rotarians For Fighting Aids and Hope. PDG Reg Loo of the Rotary Club of Gaborone is District 9250's Anchor liaison officer and he coordinated the donation of the blankets.
