Kyalami club together with their hosts took the books out to Mokolodi Training Centre.

 

After physically handing over the books everybody went out to the campsite in the nature reserve where the members of the Preserve Planet Earth provided a picnic lunch for all the guests.

DG Maria Luisa Natividade made her official visit to Club. She did a tour of  Kamogelo Day Care Centre, Anne - Stine and Bana ba Kaletso Day Care Centre. Kamogelo was the clubs Centennial Project, Anne-Stine has been supported by the club for a number of years and Bana ba Kalestso is the club's present project. After the tour the DG attended the club's Friday luncheon meeting during which she addressed the club members. (Photographs of her tour are in the photo gallery)

Ana, our exchange student from Brazil celebrated her 18th birthday. Her parents were present having flown from Brazil to be with her.

Bill Lee was inducted as a new member. He was introduced to the club by PP John McCrory.

The Rotary Club of Kyalami from District 9300 headed by President Sam Donan visited the club and donated books to Kamogelo Day Care Centre, Khama Rhino Sanctuary and MokolodiNature Reserve.

 

20October 2005

A second consignment of 280 wheelchairs from the Wheelchair Foundation were delivered to Consolidations Botswana (Pty) Ltd. Consolidations Botswana will be storing the wheelchairs on behalf of the Rotary Club of Gaborone until the wheelchairs are shared out amongst the 5 Rotary Clubs in Botswana or donated to disabled persons though out Botswana.

The last wheelchair from the first batch was donated to Casimir Rudolph at Princess Marina Hospital. The wheelchair was handed over by President Tony Rees supported by Rotarians Yash Gureja and Graham Burt

We welcome our newest Rotarian, Lame Gare who was nducted into the club by President Toney during our lunchtime meeting at the Gaborone Sun. He was introduced to the club by Rotarian Nelson.

 

BOTSWANA BOOK PROJECT WINS AGAIN!!

 

On October 5, the Botswana Book Project was the official recipient of Four Storage Containers given by Mascom.  The containers will be used by the Project to store their donated books prior to their distribution to Botswana schools.  The cost of moving the containers from Gaborone was covered by British High Commission, logistical assistance was supplied by Rotary Club of Gaborone and a lovely new sign, created by Sign Outlet, was purchased for the Book Project by Rotarian, Chris Sharp.  Maun Senior Secondary School has provided the site.

 The ribbon was cut by Mr. Charles Letsholathebe, Senior Chief Representative assisted by Jose Ferriera CEO of Mascom, Amanda Sealy of British High Commission and Tony Rees, President of Rotary Club of Gaborone.            

 

The ceremony was attended by local dignitaries:

The Botswana Book Project has to date distributed over 200,000 library books throughout the country.  The result is 800 new Primary School Libraries created, a rise in English test scores by all schools, an increase in library size at Maun Senior Secondary School from approx. 1000 to over 13,000 books.
