Rafael Veraza a Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar from New Braunfels, Texas who is studying for a year at the University of Botswana gave a presentation on the city of his birth, Mexico City, and his life in New Braunfels and nearby San Antonio. After the presentation Rafael presented a banner to President Bill McLennan from the Rotary Club of Oak Hills, San Antonio who were his sponsors. In return, he received a club banner from President Bill which will be presented to Oak Hills on his return.

Rotarian Graham Burt handed out 2 wheelchairs in Mogoditshane and 1 wheelchair at Mmopane. The presentations in Mogoditshane where made at the homes of the individuals while the presentation in Mmopane was done a the Catholic Church.

Rotarian Graham Burt went to the Catholic Church at Mmopane on the outskirts of Gaborone and presented a wheelchair to Agnes Mmipi.

At 6 am Rotarians Graham Burt and Yash Gureja set out for Palapye in the company of Rotarians Barbara Butchart, Stan Pretorius, Ernest Block and his wife Sylvia plus William Lee and his wife Christine. Also in the party were two Rotary Ambassadorial Scholars, Graham Sowa and Rafael Veraza, who had only arrived in Botswana the night before.

Palapye is 275 km north of Gaborone and we arrived shortly before 0930. 34 wheelchairs were over a period of about 3 hours. This was the largest presentation since the project started in 2005. The District Council brought in individuals from through out the surrounding area who were in need of a wheelchair.

TAOLO TEBELELO (15 YEARS) WAS TRANSPORTED IN, PLACED IN HER OWN WHEELCHAIR AND THEN TAKEN TO HAVE HER PICTURE TAKEN WHICH WILL BE PRESENTED TO THE DONORS OF THE WHEELCHAIRS

On the way back to Gaborone, the party stopped off at Mahalapye and presented 14 wheelchairs. Then Rotarians Graham and Yash went off with the social workers and handed over wheelchairs at the homes of four individuals who had been unable to get to the presentation.

The Club presented Paul Harris Fellow awards to His Excellency The Former President Festus Mogae and to The Former First Lady Barbara Mogae. The Former President's award was for the lead he and his government took in combating HIV/AIDS and the treatment of citizens inflicted with the virus.  He has not retired from the fight against HIV/AIDS and is continuing his work through the chairmanship of NACA (the national AIDS body) plus he has also joined a number of other former African leaders in working towards "A Generation without AIDS".

The Former First Lady's award was for all the work she has done and continues to do  for preservation of the environment and for her promotion of volunteerism within the communities of Botswana.

As our President and the Immediate Past President were out of the country, the presentation was preformed by Past President Mike Lakin.

Rotarians Graham Burt and Yash Gureja travelled to Letlhakeng to present 6 wheelchairs to individuals who had not been able to make the presentation on the 8th of March 2008. The recipients were 2 children, 2 females and 2 males. The wheelchairs were handed over at the District Clinic.

PP Barney O'Reilly and Rtn Itamar Azoulay visited Kamogelo Day Care Centre in Magoditshane to present books and wildlife videos to the centre. The books had been donated by the pupils of Northside Primary School in Gaborone while the videos had been donated by Piet Erasmus. The books and videos were received by Sister Margaret and a class of pre-school children.

Rtn Graham Burt travelled out the farming area of Metsimotlhabe to hand over a wheelchair to Joseph Kgosietsile. Joseph had a wheelchair that had seen better days and was beyond repair and so this was a very welcome replacement.
